Black Magic Protein Squares

I've got the magic in me,
I took one look at it's cute skulls and bones --
Everybody knows I've got the magic in me,
I ate it all and it's in my bellyyyy
Now everybody wants squares of black magic

Do I have to start Halloween posts with a song?

Um, the answer is actually yes.

Where is your spooky spirit, sir?

Speaking of spooky I saw Crimson Peak last night.

Not only was it spooky but it also had eye candy. And these bars have candy eyes. So this is all relevant information.

Anyways, they filmed a lot of it in my home town. Lately driving to work is a nightmare because they film a lot of things downtown. When I found out Charlie Hunnam and Tom Hiddleston AND Guillermo Del Toro were all going to be in the same place, AKA 10 minutes from my office, well -- it made me pretty happy.

And then I didn't meet them and loads of other people did and I was a super sad panda.

But you know what reverses S.P.S. (sad panda syndrome)?

YES THESE BARS I MEAN LOOKIT THAT GOOD TIMING AMIRITE?

Decadent, fudgey and absolutely delicious.

Protein bars meet fudge. Fudge, meet protein bars. Now make sweet, sweet protein bar babies together.

Awe yahhhhh!

I had so much fun piling these guys up and flicking Halloween sprinkles all over the place like Halloween Oprah.

YOU'RE GETTING A BONE, AND YOU'RE GETTING A SKULL AND EVERYBODY'S GETTTINNGGG SPRINKLESSS!

You go Halloween Oprah, you GO!

So in honour of Halloween, Tom Hiddleston, film crews and Halloween Oprah, I present to you the most delicious protein bar ever.

Black Magic Protein Squares

Yields 16 Squares

Gluten Free, Refined Sugar Free, High Protein, Vegan Option

Ingredients:

For Base:

  • 1 1/3 cup oat flour
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 1/4 cup coconut flour (or peanut flour!)
  • 1 cup chocolate protein powder of choice
  • 1/3 cup dark dutch processed cocoa powder, sifted
  • 1/2 cup honey, agave or maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup nut butter of choice
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate, melted
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste

Chocolate Ganache Layer:

  • 1/2 cup chopped chocolate of choice (I used 70% dark chocolate!)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • Optional: Halloween sprinkles!

Directions:

  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl and set aside
  2. In a small saucepan combine sweetener,  nut butter, extracts, and oil until fully combined, if using flavourings or stevia drops add those into this mixture. Add in melted chocolate (or melt chocolate in the same pan at the end) and set aside.
  3. Pour sweetener/butter mixture over our dry ingredients and stir thoroughly, If your dough is too dry -- add a few spoons of almond milk until it comes together!
  4. Press dough into an 8x8 pan lined with foil or plastic wrap
  5. Set in fridge for 15 minutes before adding ganache
  6. To make ganache, melt chocolate in the microwave with the coconut oil -- spread over bars and top with sprinkles if desired.
  7. Allow to set in the fridge until chocolate is firm to the touch -- slice into 16 bars and serve!
  8. Keep leftovers in the fridge for 5-7 days

AREN'T THOSE JELLY BEANS SO CUTE!!!!!!

I think they look like little rocks.

And they taste like boysenberry and mixed berry. Whatever that means?

And of course, the little bone sprinkles are a must. If there is a sprinkle-less life -- well I don't want any part of it, really.

I have purchased SOOOO MUCH Halloween dessert/baking related paraphernalia and I haven't had the chance to really use it. So sad :(

You think I'd learn my lesson and be like YEP THERE IS A LESSON HERE I WILL TOTALLY EXERCISE MODERATION DURING CHRISTMAS.

But I know damn well, I won't. I have a serious cute packaging/new cookie cutter/ fun sprinkle addiction.

You've probably seen my instagram posts with all my fun finds. Winners will be the death of me!

That skull in the photo is a giant glass skull head from Winners. Tons of my baking supplies are, actually! I love it too much.

And the dollar store. Dollar stores are bae.

I think you should definitely give these a try. If you like happiness and life and sprinkles. Oh and chocolate. But chocolate IS life so...I dunno I figured that sorta covered it!

If you DO try these please leave a comment or share a photo with me :D I'd love that! My instagram is @Summerbakes88 so you can tag me in the picture <3

Happy Halloween Oprah-ing!

XO
